Calabasas Drone Services

From the gated estates of The Oaks and Mulholland hillsides to the tile-roofed neighborhoods off Park Granada and Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas is one of the most striking places to shoot from the air. It also sits against the Santa Monica Mountains, where parkland, fire season and the city's own drone rules all shape how a flight is planned. Dragon Media is a local Conejo Valley crew, and we fly a 6K drone with a 100MP camera to capture estate-quality aerials and roof findings you can use right away.

Calabasas Drone FAQs

Do I need a permit for a drone shoot in Calabasas?

For commercial work, usually yes. The City of Calabasas requires a film permit for any production filming or still shoot within city limits, plus a separate LA County Fire permit. Processing typically takes 3-5 business days, or 2-3 weeks if the public right-of-way is involved. The city's film office is reachable at filmpermit@cityofcalabasas.com or (818) 224-1712. We'll tell you during planning whether your shoot needs one.

Where can't drones take off around Calabasas?

California State Parks' Angeles District bans launching, landing or operating drones in its park units without written approval (Order 915-22-004), and that includes Malibu Creek State Park off Las Virgenes Road. Much of the surrounding land is part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, where National Park Service rules generally prohibit launching or landing drones. During wildfires, the FAA issues Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and flying in one is illegal. We take off from approved private property, check every flight against current restrictions, and reschedule if a TFR is active.

Does Calabasas have its own drone rules?

Yes. Chapter 9.10 of the Calabasas Municipal Code requires visual line of sight, daylight flying (or civil twilight with anti-collision lights), staying 25 feet from people other than the crew, property owner consent for private property, and prior authorization before flying over permitted events, near schools or within 100 feet of public buildings. We plan every Calabasas flight around these rules and FAA Part 107.

How long does a drone roof inspection take?

About 30 minutes on site, and we're running a $150 drone roof inspection promo. See our $150 drone roof inspection details.

Are you insured and FAA certified?
